Supporting local families with their household budget pressures, like cutting fuel excise in half, saving you 22 cents per litre. We’re also making a one-off payment of $250 for 16,587 local pensioners and carers and increasing their regular payments. And we’re establishing a Northern Australia reinsurance pool to reduce premiums, while investing in affordable housing.
Our economic recovery plan lowers taxes for families and small business and invests in agriculture, mining, and manufacturing industries. Around 66,700 local low and middle income earners will receive up to $1,500 in further tax relief this year, including a $420 tax offset. And we’re investing in extra skills & training places.
We’re investing in fixing local roads and building better regional highways to save lives and reduce travel times, like the Mackay Ring Road Stage 2 upgrade, the Haughton River Floodplain upgrade and the Walkerston Bypass. We’ve invested $480 million to build Urannah Dam, creating 1,200 construction jobs and 650 jobs in agriculture and manufacturing.
Investing in more local doctors and nurses by clearing their HECS and HELP debt when they practice and live locally. We’re delivering around 300,000 local Medicare telehealth consultations and almost 2 million free or subsidised medicines. We’re investing record funding in aged care to help the 22,000 seniors living locally and making childcare more affordable.
I’m proud that we’re investing in our local communities, with better facilities and public spaces and a healthy local environment that families can enjoy now and into the future, like the $4.1 million for the Mackay Waterfront PDA – Riverside Revitalisation Project, $6.5 million for the Northern Beaches Community Hub and $2.5 million for the Whitsunday Maritime Training Centre.
Our Plan is Building a Strong Economy for a Stronger Future
Creating more, better paid jobs.
Delivering tax relief for workers and small businesses.
Investing in roads, dams and local manufacturing.
Making record investments in health and aged care.
Investing in stronger defence to make Australia safer.
