Supporting local families with their household budget pressures, like cutting the fuel excise in half, saving you 22 cents per litre for 6 months. We’re also making a one-off payment of $250 for 15,783 local pensioners and carers and increasing their regular payments. And we’re establishing a Northern Australia reinsurance pool to reduce premiums, while investing in affordable housing.
Our economic recovery plan lowers taxes for families and small business and invests in skills, infrastructure and manufacturing. Around 71,100 local low and middle income earners will receive up to $1,500 in further tax relief this year including a new $420 tax offset. And we’re investing in extra skills & training places.
We’re investing in fixing local roads to save lives and reduce travel times like the Townsville Ring Road Stage 5 and Riverway Drive Stage 2. We’re also investing in major economic infrastructure projects to deliver more jobs like the Townsville Port expansion and capacity upgrade and $5.4 billion for Hells Gates Dam to create more than 7,000 jobs.
Investing in better services and a stronger Medicare by delivering around 330,000 local Medicare telehealth consultations and a new ward at Townsville University Hospital. We’re making childcare more affordable by removing the annual cap and increasing subsidies for families with multiple children. And we’re investing record funding in aged care to help the 18,758 seniors living locally.
I’m proud that we’re investing in our local communities, with better facilities and public spaces and a healthy local environment that families can enjoy now and into the future, like the Illich Park Precinct Upgrade Stage 2, the NQ Stadium and the Cowboys Community Training and High-Performance Centre and the $80m Reef HQ Expansion.
